Movie Review Flashback- The Founder (2016)

The Founder is a 2016 biopic and drama film directed by John Lee Hancock (Saving Mr. Banks) and starring Michael Keaton, John Carroll Lynch, Nick Offerman, John Carroll Lynch, Linda Cardellini, Patrick Wilson, B. J. Novak, Laura Dern, and others about ice cream machine salesman turn founder of McDonalds.

Ray Croc is a down-on-his-luck ice cream salesman who discovers that a mysterious burger joint in San Bernardino, California called McDonald’s owned by two brothers Richard and Maurice McDonald. After eating at their fast food restaurant and experiencing their ‘speedy system,’ Croc convinces them to allow him to turn their single restaurant into a massive franchise.

After signing an agreement, Croc soon becomes angry at the brothers constant meddling in the affairs of the business. Soon, he decides to take matters into his own hands, hurting people in the process as he rises in the restaurant business.

Michael Keaton is brilliant in this film. He should have been nominated for an Academy Award for his performance as Ray Croc. It is one of his finest performances as the fast-talking founder of the McDonald’s restaurant franchise. The film is brilliantly acted and well told. Director John Lee Hancock deserves credit for bringing the tale to life. He does an excellent job of weaving the story of fast food together.

This film proves the cautionary mantra, ‘if something is too good to be true, it usually is.’
