The Academy Awards happened last night. There were a plethora of presenters, but no host. Here is the list of movies that took home an Oscar:

    • Winner: Regina King — If Beale Street Could Talk

Of course, the big surprise win of the night went to Best Picture. I predicted that Spike Lee’s BlackKklansmen or The Favourite would win. The former because it was the most anti-Trump and it was Spike Lee’s “turn.” The latter because there is nothing Hollywood elitist like more than watching three women bicker during a historical drama. Of course, I was wrong.

Best Picture:

  • Black Panther
  • BlacKkKlansman
  • Bohemian Rhapsody
  • The Favourite
  • Roma
  • A Star is Born
  • Vice
  • Winner: Green Book

I have to admit, I’m a little surprised Green Book took the win after the made-up controversy surrounding star Viggo Mortensen.

Of course, the most shocking thing for me is that Avengers: Infinity War got completely snubbed. While it garnered a few meaningless technical nominations, it did not get a single win. Lesser and inferior movies like Roma or First Man scooped up the awards because of Hollywood’s blatant disrespect for the audiences. It should have been at least been nominated for Best Picture and Joe and Anthony Russo should have won for Best Director. Hands down.

Now unbiasedly, the Best Picture award should have gone to A Quiet Place. However, Hollywood hates giving awards to genre films, even one like the John Krasinski and Emily Blunt led film that both audiences and critics (bizarrely) enjoyed.
