Comic Book Review- Batman: Knightmares

Tom King continues his story-arc in DC Comics’ Batman series. This trilogy spans issues 61, 62, and 63. It is a very odd story-arc that is a bit hard to follow. There are no spoilers in this review.

Issue 61 begins with Matthew, a young boy from way back to issue 38. He is a young man obsessed with being Bruce Wayne and he fantasizes that Batman is solving the mystery of his own parent’s murder, even though he is the cause of their death.

Issue 62 and 63 offer a different nightmare. Batman deals with Professor Pyg and with a bizarre story where Catwoman actually goes through with the wedding. Wizard detective John Constantine shows up and so does Damian in a bizarre twist.

61, illustrated by Travis Moore, has absolutely nothing to do with the preceding story. Perhaps it will come together later, but it seems out of place with the previous story, The Tyrant Wing. This one had the best artwork of the three issues which is a shame since it is so strangely placed.

Mitch Gerards and Mikel Janin provide the artwork for 62 and 63. These two issues are incredibly bizarre and offer some strange interlude following the events of Batman’s rampage through Gotham City, trying to prove Bane behind some massive plot at Arkham. It does not attempt to rectify that story-arc or continue it. Perhaps more information will come to light, but these two issues are bizarrely written and seem so strange even for a Batman story in the DC Universe.
