What To Expect For ‘Cells at Work’ Season 2

Cells at Work!‘ is an anime series adapted from a manga known as ‘Hataraku Saibō’ from Kodansha’s shōnen manga magazine Monthly Shōnen Sirius. Season one brought lots of laughs as we saw cells presented as humans living in a body that appears to be a city to them. After a successful dubbing of the first season, the Japanese animation company David Production announced a second season.

According to the Funimation blog,

“During Aniplex’s livestream event, “Aniplex 48-Hour TV,” a promotional video announced the return of the Cells at Work! anime and that production for Season 2 is officially underway for a January 2021 broadcast. The official website and Twitter account revealed the key visual as well.” They continued, “Most of the anime’s original staff from David Production are returning for Season 2 and the theatrical anime—Yuuko Kakihara as scriptwriter, Takahiko Yoshida as character designer and Kenichiro Suehiro as music composer. Hirofumi Ogura has taken on the role as the series’ new director.”

There has been no announcement on whether or not the original English cast will return, but Aniplex is known for its consistency with voice actors. While many types of injuries and illnesses were explored in the first season, such as “Scrape Wound” and “Cedar Pollen Allergy,” there are other story-arcs in the manga that have yet to be touched on, such as “The Common Cold.”

In the meantime, a film spin-off titled Cells at Work! The Return of the Strongest Enemy. A Huge Uproar in the Body’s Bowels will be released in Japan in September. No word yet if an English dub will be released soon after.
