Movie Review- Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox

01 Justice_League_-_The_Flashpoint_ParadoxFlashpoint was a mini-series in the DC Universe that changed the “New Earth” reality into the “Earth Prime,” giving DC Comics a total reboot and becoming the New 52

Brought to us by Warner Premier and directed by Jay Olivia, Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox of the comic book series takes many liberties, but overall keeps to the original storyline. It stars an epic voice cast line-up that delivers a powerful edge to the movie.

The story goes that, after Flash (Justin Chambers) and the Justice League stop Flash’s arch nemesis Professor Zoom (C. Thomas Howell) from destroying Central City, Barry Allen (Flash’s alter ego) wakes in a strange world where Atlantis and Amazon Island are in a war that is threatening to destroy the Earth. Confused and powerless, he travels to Gotham City he meets a much more violent and gritty Batman. In this altered time, Bruce (Kevin Conroy) died and Thomas Wayne (Kevin McKidd) became the Dark Knight. This Batman helps him regain his powers and searches for a way to undo the damage to the time stream.

I applaud the adaption of the comic book. However, they seemed to draw oversized chests on Superman and Aquaman. Instead of doing more traditional artwork, they did it quasi-anime style, with slightly too much animated blood and gore. I have to admit, I did miss some of the support cast that was left out of the movie, I’m sure for time’s sake. These are my only complaints. Aside from that, I thought that it captured the comic book’s essence and the producers did an overall good job of bringing it to life.  It was great to hear Kevin Conroy return as Batman and Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern.  Also, Justin Chambers as the Flash was a great choice. He truly brought life to the character.
