Why Does the 3rd Amendment Matter?

01 the-constitution

  • Amendment III

No Soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law.

The American Colonists, before forming the good ol’ United States of America, were often forced to give up their homes, property, shelter, and sometimes even food in order to house troops. They could come in with no warrant and no outside authority and seize whatever they please.

Why does this matter to us? With the arm of government continuing to get broader and broader, we should be wary. Our US troops are heroes, and I mean disrespect to anyone who is serving in our Armed Forces, but there are bad people in every aspect of America. Through this Amendment, we can keep the sanctity of our homes and the peace of mind that our troops are keeping our homes safe and sound, at home and abroad.
