Anime Movie Review- Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F

01 DBZ Resurrection F

Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z were almost destroyed by the so-called sequel series Dragon Ball GT. However, after years of ignoring the fan voices, Toei Animation finally relented and brought back the series creator Akira Toriyama. He gave us the film Battle of Gods and now the hit sequel Resurrection F (or Revival of F in Japan).

As Frieza (Chris Ayres) is tortured by happy stuffed animals in Otherworld, his empire is crumbling under the leadership of General Sorbet (Jeremy Schwartz). He and another subordinate travel to Earth and, with the help of Emperor Pilaf (Chuck Huber) and his minions, wish Frieza back to life. Once Frieza is fully healed, he decides that he needs to train to fight Goku (Sean Schemmel), so he can match the Saiyan’s strength.

Six months pass and Goku and Vegeta (Christopher R. Sabat) are training with powerful trainer Whis (Ian Sinclair) on the destroyer god Beerus’ (Jason Douglas) planet. However, Jaco (Todd Haberkorn) the Galactic Patrolman shows up to warn Bulma that Frieza is on his way. After gathering Tien (John Burgmeier), Krillin (Sonny Strait), Master Roshi (Mike McFarland), Piccolo (Christopher R. Sabat), and Gohan (Kyle Hebert) to fight Frieza’s army. Though Gohan can go Super Saiyan, due to lack of training he cannot fight Frieza. They hold off Frieza’s army until Goku and Vegeta arrive to fight the evil tyrant, leading to an epic showdown.

This is the best Dragon Ball film ever made by Toei Animation and its American counterpart Funimation. It’s got action, adventure, Martial Arts, and lots of great dialogue. I was disappointed that Chiaotzu, Yumcha, Goten, and Trunks did not make an appearance and Android 18 just had a cameo. I still enjoyed seeing the old school look and feel of the iconic anime series based on the popular manga.
