Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel (formerly known as Ms. Marvel, Warbird, and Binary) is one of my all-time favorite heroines from Marvel Comics. I was hoping Joss Whedon would get his wish and include her in Avengers: Age of Ultron, but alas, it was not to be.
However as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase Three, a Captain Marvel movie, with Carol Danvers as the heroine, has been announced with potential release date of March 8, 2019.
Marvel is keeping a tight lip on whether Captain Marvel has been cast or not, thus leaving us with nothing but speculation on who will play the role. I decided to dig deep and come up with my own list of talented actresses on who could play the role. Here are my top 14 choices for Captain Marvel casting.
Emma Stone– I know what you’re thinking: “But, but, she was Gwen Stacey in The Amazing Spider-Man and its sequel.” So what? Sony lost that battle and Spider-Man is coming to the MCU. Emma Stone is a talented actress and would be great at the role.
Stacey Dash– Just saying, if Marvel decided to go the Monica Rambeau version of Captain Marvel (later known as Photon), Dash would make an excellent choice.
Katee Sackhoff– Some have suggested her from the start and I am completely on board. She has the science fiction chops and is just a great actress. Katee would be a powerhouse playing Captain Marvel whether in a solo film or an Avengers sequel.
Tammy Lauren– While it’s true she’s mainly done TV roles recently, her roles in Walker, Texas Ranger and Martial Law prove she is a great action star. She has the skills and the moves to pull off a great role such as Carol Danvers.
Emily Kinney– She’s an alumnus of the AMC original series The Walking Dead. Emily is no stranger to an action-packed set and could show an ambitious, young Danvers trying to discover what all her powers have to offer.
Gemma Arterton– She has already worked with Jeremy Renner on Hansel & Gretal: Witch Hunters. Why not add her as an Avenger that seemingly recognizes Hawkeye? It could have a little film making humor there. Aside from that, she is a truly gifted actress who would be great in the role.
Lauren German– I first saw her on the remake of Hawaii Five-0. Lauren is a great actress and one that carries a lot of command. At first, I didn’t like her character, but I warmed up to her. She would be perfect for a person that headlines as a ‘captain.’
Olivia Wilde- I’ve gotten a few disagreements from fellow nerds, but I think she would do great especially after seeing her in Tron: Legacy. While the movie disappointed some fans, I thought she was fantastic in it. Yes, enough to play Captain Marvel.
Jennifer Morrison– Even though Once Upon A Time (more on that later) has gone off it’s rocker, Jennifer remains one of the coolest actresses I have seen. She is a great actresses with the experience and know-how to play the part.
Dina Meyer– I know it’s blasphemous to suggest it since she played Barbara Gordon on the wreck of a TV show based on the DC Comic Birds of Prey. That being said, she has experience playing a leadership role and that is what Captain Marvel is, a leader among the Avengers.
Jordana Brewster– She’s already appeared in the Fast & Furious franchise including the most recent one: Furious 7, so why not another one? Jordana would be fantastic in the role! I believe she could master the part and bring some much needed cosmic power to the MCU.
Laurie Holden– Another alumnus from The Walking Dead, Laurie, in my humble opinion, looks the most like how Carol Danvers is drawn in many of the artwork pieces I’ve seen. Aside from that, she is a dynamite actress who has great experience.
Daisy Ridley– While I was not a total fan of Rey, I do think Ms. Ridley is an excellent actress who could bring a fair amount of skill to the role of Danvers.
Olga Kurylenko– She might have been a Bond Girl in Quantum of Solace, but she is one tough actress that has some pretty impressive film credits under her belt. I believe she has the acting skills and the experience to play Captain Marvel.
Those my favorite choices for playing Captain Marvel. Did I leave any of your favorites out? Feel free to comment and be sure to subscribe to my blog for more great articles like this one!
