Graphic Novel Review- The Architect

The Architect is a 2007 graphic novel published by Big Head Press. It was written by the creative mind of Mike Baron with impressive artwork by Andie Tong. Baron, of course, is the creator of the infamous science fiction comic book character Nexus as well as Badger. He has written Marvel Comics and DC Comics as well. With this graphic novel, he returns to his roots as a horror driven writer.

Roark Dexter Smith may have been a world-class architect, violinist, and even amateur botanist, he was also a womanizer who brings home a young wife who is secretly having an affair with the foreman of his newest project: a house built directly into a hill. He also had a secret hobby that he told no one about.

Years after Smith, his wife, and foreman die in a mysterious fire, adopted child Gill Hopper discovers he is the heir to Smith’s business. There’s one catch, he has to finish the strange hill house. He arrives with his fiancee and their friends. Soon, it becomes clear that the house to hide has more than strange looking flora.

Writing horror is what Mike Baron is born to do. Likewise, Andie Tong perfect illustrates the terrifying and often gruesome story. For fans of both comic books and the horror genre, The Architect is the perfect addition to your collection.
