The media is abuzz with the latest ouster at the liberal cable talk channel MSNBC. Melissa Harris-Perry, best known for wearing tampon earrings during a contraception debate, has left the network after a contentious and tense week at the network, The Washington Post reports.
For those of you unfamiliar with Harris-Perry, she is known for making racial comments such as suggesting that Darth Vader was black while he was evil and then white when he was redeemed. Apparently, she neglected the casting of white actor Hayden Christensen as a young Darth Vader is Star Wars Episode III Revenge of the Sith.
The New York Times reported that she refused to show up for work after her she show preempted in favor of election coverage writing,“I will not be used as a tool for their purposes,” she wrote. “I am not a token, mammy or little brown bobble head. I am not owned by [NBC executives] or MSNBC. I love our show. I want it back.”
MSNBC, shocked that she turned it into a racial issue, added Harris-Perry to a growing list of former anchors including Keith Olbermann, Ed Schultz, Joy Reid, Ronan Farrow, among others.
The Media Research Council’s Tim Graham wrote an excellent article about Melissa Harris-Perry’s MSNBC departure on Newsbusters, that is why I’m using the MRC’s hashtag TTT16 (Tell The Truth 2016).
