Based on the hit video game from Rocksteady, Batman: Arkham Knight Genesis tells the behind-the-scenes story of what happened to the mysterious villain that wants to roust control of Gotham City and the Batman. Warning, some spoilers for the game.
Taking place prior to the events of the game, Jason Todd is engaging in his new role as the Arkham Knight. He and his scouts are keeping a sharp eye on Batman and testing his limits as they prepare to work with Scarecrow to take Gotham City by storm with a militia led by and trained by Slade Wilson, the assassin known as Deathstroke. It also shows back-flashes to Jason as Robin, his capture and torture by the Joker, and finally his rise as a former sidekick looking for vengeance.
Written by Peter J. Tomasi with artwork by Alisson Borges, Dexter Soy, and Dave McCaig, DC Comics weaves an excellent prequel to the video game. It shows Jason Todd’s sense of abandonment as the Joker and Harley Quinn tortures him for over a year. Todd’s jealousy as Batman takes Tim Drake as the new Robin. Ultimately, his drive for revenge as he watches Bruce Wayne continue his war on crime. It compliments the game in tone and skill, making it a must-add to your collection on Dark Knight trade paperbacks.
