#BatmanDay Movie Review- Batman (1989)

Batman 1989

Today is Batman Day! I decided to celebrate by giving you my take on all Batman films, minus Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and The Dark Knight Rises, since I’ve already covered them. Batman & Robin will just be ignored.

Director Tim Burton brought the Caped Crusader to the big screen in 1989 and starring Jack Nicholson, Michael Keaton, Kim Basinger, Robert Wuhl, Pat Hingle, Billy Dee Williams, Michael Gough, Jack Palance, and featured music composed by Danny Elfman.

Gotham City’s criminal underworld has been assaulted by a vigilante called The Batman. News journalists Vicki Vale and Alexander Knox are trying to find him.

Meanwhile, crime boss Carl Grissom wants to kill his psychopathic hitman Jack Knapier. However, everything goes wrong at the trap when Batman shows up and Jack seemingly falls to his death.

What comes out of the acid is none other than the Joker. Batman now has to face the ultimate evil with help from Vicki, Alfred, and Commissioner Gordon.

For its time, this interpretation seemed spot on. Despite some of the weird scenery and cheesy 80s dialogue, this film is a great depiction of Batman. It brought the Dark Knight back to his roots. Also, Jack Nicholson was spot on as the Joker. He portrayed the Clown Prince of Crime to a tea.
