#BatmanDay Movie Review- Batman Begins

Batman Begins

Director Christopher Nolan brought us Batman Begins. What better way to end Batman Day then to talk about the film that saved the Dark Knight from development limbo? The film stars Christian Bale, Katie Holmes, Liam Neeson, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman, Cillian Murphy, and a whole host of all star actors with a music score by Hans Zimmer.

The plot combines elements from Batman Year One and a few other sources to bring us a new film origin for the Batman. It took Gotham City out of obscurity and into modern times.

Neeson and Murphy shine as the villains Ra’s al Ghul and Jonathan Crane aka the Scarecrow. Their performances are unmatched, with the exception of Heath Ledger as The Joker in the film’s sequel The Dark Knight.

It still divides fans because of Holmes’ performance and Bale’s disguised voice. Neither bothered me. I thought his voice was scratchy and I thought Holmes was decent. She was better than Anne Hathaway in The Dark Knight Rises anyway.

I thought it was exactly what the Batman film franchise needed. It is a shame that it did not spin-off the DC Comics film universe. They would be far superior.
