We have finally made it! September 17th is Batman Day! I decided to celebrate the DC Comic hero by giving you movie reviews on all Batman films, minus Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and The Dark Knight Rises, since I’ve already covered them. Batman & Robin will just be ignored for its blatant offensiveness.

Joel Schumacher takes the reigns of the Batman series from director Tim Burton in 1995. With pressure from Warner Bros., Schumacher made it significantly lighter in tone from the previous films since Batman Returns failed to match its predecessor at the box office. It stars Val Kilmer (replacing Michael Keaton), Chris O’Donnell, Nicole Kidman, Tommy Lee Jones, Jim Carrey, Michael Gough, Drew Barrymore, Debi Mazar, and others.

In Gotham City, Two-Face wants revenge on Batman for failing to save him after Mob Boss Maroni scarred him in court as Harvey Dent. He attacks the Haley’s Circus where he kills the Grayson family except for their youngest son Richard “Dick” Grayson.

Meanwhile, Edward Nygma, who idealizes Bruce Wayne, gets fired from his job after his device is named mind manipulation. This causes Nygma to become vengeful and he seeks the aid of Two-Face and becomes the Riddler.

Grayson wants revenge on Two-Face and soon finds out that Bruce Wayne is in fact Batman. Together, the two form an alliance to take on the two villains.

Val Kilmer and Chris O’Donnel are great as Batman and Robin (no pun intended). The movie falls short with cheesy dialogue from the two main villains and a ridiculous sound track that makes the film seem corny.

If Schumacher had put more effort into better production values, the series could have continued, but then, we would not have The Dark Knight trilogy to remember.
