#BatmanDay Movie Review- Batman Returns

Batman Returns

We have finally made it to Batman Day! I decided to celebrate by giving you my take on all Batman films, minus Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and The Dark Knight Rises, since I’ve already covered them. Batman & Robin will just be ignored.

Directed by Tim Burton, Batman Returns is a sequel to the 1989 film. It returns Michael Keaton to the cape and cowl. It also stars Danny DeVito, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken, Michael Gough, Pat Hingle, Michael Murphy, and others.

In Gotham City, the Christmas season is being assaulted by a gang of circus freaks. They are led by the mysterious Oswald Cobblepot, known as the Penguin. He blackmails corrupt Max Shreck into helping him.

Meanwhile, Shreck tries to kill assistant Selina Kyle who discovers his corruption, who is reborn as Catwoman.

Meanwhile, Bruce Wayne aka the Batman, is trying to stop the Penguin’s reign of terror on the city and he begins a tentative romance with Selina Kyle. Batman, meanwhile, begins a romance of sorts with the mysterious Catwoman who later allies with the Penguin.

Though this film is better in quality as far as acting, screenplay, and character development than its predecessor, it shows Batman actually killing someone on screen by attaching a bomb to him. I did not approve of that.

I will say, Keaton really steps it up into the role this time around. He does a better Batman and his chemistry with Pfeiffer as Selina Kyle is spot on.

FAVORITE QUOTE: But a kiss can be even deadlier… if you mean it.

PARENTAL CONCERN: Violence, Disturbing images, and foul language
