Movie Review Flashback- The Client

The Client is a 1994 film directed by  Joel Schumacher and is based on the novel by the same name by legal thriller novelist John Grisham. It stars Susan Sarandon, Tommy Lee Jones, Mary-Louise Parker, Anthony LaPaglia, Anthony client-film-posterEdwards, Ossie Davis, and others.

Eleven year old Mark Sway meets a suicidal lawyer in the woods outside of Memphis. The lawyer confesses that his client is Mafia hitman who murdered a Louisiana senator and even tells the boy where the body is hidden before killing himself.

Mark is soon swamped by the FBI, the Mafia, and the press. His brother is in shock and his mother looses her job. With nothing to loose, he hires a lawyer named Reggie Love to help him. However, they are being bullied by US District Attorney Roy Foltrigg who will stop at nothing to find that body.

This is one of Schumacher’s best films. It’s so amazing he almost destroyed the Batman film franchise.

Anyway, this film is suspenseful and features an ensemble cast that really brings the story to life. Tommy Lee Jones and Susan Sarandon really steal the show in their performances.

I have never read the book by John Grisham so I cannot tell you how it is as an adaption, but I highly recommend it.
