Christian Inspiration: Come To Me

01 Christian Inspiration

Matthew 11:28- “Come to Me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

This is one of my favorite scriptures. It is one that is often overlooked or misquoted by well meaning people.

Some people think that it is for when you die. When you ascend into Heaven, Jesus will finally give you peace. While that is true, that is not the context of this scripture.

Others think it is that your life is so perfect. No matter what, you will have unicorns, rainbows, and lots of cash. There is no Biblical foundation for that principle.

This is what I believe and how I have experienced these words.

I believe and I think this is the context of what Jesus was saying. I think Christ is saying that He is there for us. No matter what the cause, the circumstance, or the situation, He is there standing by our side.

One day, my wife’s health was bad, my job situation was circling the drain, and I was felt like no one was there to help me. I was alone and feeling small in a very large world.

I drove to a store to pick up a few things and as I was sitting in my car, a preacher quoted Matthew 11:28.

He reminded us that God is our anchor. He gives a place to rest when we are feeling weary and in need rest. He is our peacemaker in troubled time and a fortress of refuge.

I began to pray for peace. You know what, my problems did not go away.

Now, I know this where so-called intellectuals say that praying is stupid, but I honestly felt God’s presence.

While my problems did not magically disappear, I felt so encouraged. It gave me the muscle to power on. It is a relief to have some place to go to when you need some inspiration in your life.
