Though many have tried to rewrite, modernize, or write sequels to The Sherlock Holmes Adventures since they entered public domain, no one has ever come close to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the great detective’s original creator.

However in The Exploits of Sherlock Holmes, Doyle’s Adrian Conan Doyle and his co-writer John Dickson Carr at least get it right.

The stories are based on adventures mentioned, but never written by his father. For instance, story number seven is The Adventure of Foulkes Rath is inspired by the line, “Here also I find an account of the Addleton tragedy,” from the short story The Golden Pince-Nez.

All are from Sherlock Holmes’ longtime friend and associate Dr. John Watson just like the originals.

As a Sherlockian (one who has actually read ALL of the original stories), I enjoyed these stories a great deal. They do not have the imagination of the originals, but they get pretty close.
