With Colin Trevorrow Out Of Star Wars Episode IX, Who’s Next?

Colin Trevorrow has made a very hasty exit from the upcoming film Star Wars Episode IX. Despite his work on Jurassic World, Disney and LucasFilms have parted ways with him. This is not the first time directors have made departures from Star Wars films. The most recent example is the original director leaving the Han Solo prequel film with Ron Howard taking the helm.

This troubles me a great deal. I was less then enthusiastic about Disney’s creative take on Star Wars: The Force Awakens. J.J. Abrams chose to simple remake A New Hope instead of bringing us an original and interesting new plot. For The Last Jedi, they picked hack director Rian Johnson, who’s greatest contribution was Looper, a boring time traveling movie. With the back and forth of directors, even with Rogue One, who will step up to the plate? Rian Johnson and J.J. Abrams have already been placed on the shortlist. Unless The Last Jedi surprises me (doubtful), I’m not enthusiastic about that.

This is who would be on my shortlist to direct the film.

Ryan Coogler- Director of Creed and the upcoming Black Panther film. He would bring a good creative twist to Star Wars.

Gareth Edwards- The mind behind Rogue One.

Christopher Nolan- He rescued the Batman franchise, why not Star Wars?

Patty Jenkins- She gave us Wonder Woman. Let her give us Episode IX.

Brad Bird- The creative mind behind several astounding films, he could give an excellent flick.

HONORABLE MENTION:

John Milius- Though he is retired due to his health, he would make an excellent director after bringing several great films to life.
