Music Review- Emily Kinney: Mermaid Song

Emily Kinney made waves when her character was abruptly, tragically, and mistakenly killed off on The Walking Dead. However, one should not feel too bad for her. It is obvious from her Mermaid Song that she can sing with a beautiful voice. I mean this honestly. With a little bit of sparkle and charm, Kinney knows how to make a song come to life. It is the perfect transition from being a graceful character on a thriller, horror show to being a graceful singer.

Mermaid Song is the tragic story of a girl who falls in love too fast and then seemingly gets drowned in the relationship. As a result, she chooses to take to the ocean rather sink. While the message of the song is sad, her voice is just as beautiful and calming as it was on TWD. She brings that same grace she brought to our televisions sets to our headphones. It’s definitely a reminder that she has so much talent.

As for the music video, it is simply and tastefully done with Emmy singing the lyrics as she sits by the swimming. It’s simplicity is one of its strengths and matches the song very well.

The music in the song is equally simple, graceful, and beautiful bringing it together to a lovely pinnacle. Definitely pick it up for your iTunes for that Christmas season traveling you’re going to be doing to visit your family.
