#AmReading – Kingdom of Ash and Soot by CS Johnson

Fellow author CS Johnson and I became acquainted, like so many people today, over social media, particularly on Twitter and Instagram. I have to admit, I’m always hesitant to link up with a fellow novelist, in case I hate their stuff. In the case of Ms. Johnson, however, that is not the case. I enjoy her fiction a great deal and that is why I’m highlighting her latest release.

She was kind enough to send me a copy of her newest fictional book Kingdom of Ash and Soot: Book One of The Order of the Crystal Daggers. Taking place in Prague 1870, it a part-fantasy, part historical, and definitely fairy tale. Check out the synopsis:

For the last ten years, nineteen-year-old Eleanora Svobodová has worked as a servant in her stepmother’s household. Along with her older brother, she dreams of the day they will be free to live life on their own terms.

But everything changes when their estranged grandmother comes to Prague on behalf of Queen Victoria. Throughout Bohemia, a string of murders and secret whispers hint at a larger coup. As the leader of the Order of the Crystal Daggers, an ancient order of spies and soldiers that protect kingdoms and their rulers, Lady Penelope is determined to mete out the perpetrators. When their paths unexpectedly cross, Eleanora must make the choice between a life of intrigue and saving the lives of others.

Can Eleanora find a way do the right thing and still find freedom?

With a fun blend of historical fiction, true love, castle intrigue, and family dysfunction, The Order of the Crystal Daggers is the latest adventure series from C. S. Johnson.

I enjoyed this novel a great deal. It was interesting, intriguing, and had some pretty compelling twists! I loved the genre blend that she used for the book. Sometimes, I find the amount of genres merged overwhelming, but Johnson maintains a good balance. Definitely check it out on Amazon, where you can get a paperback and e-book version. Also, check out her website while you’re at it.

Those are my thoughts. What do you think? Let me know your favorite CS Johnson novel in the comment section below. While you are at it, check out the post where I rank Frank Peretti novels. Don’t forget to like, share, and subscribe for more posts like this one.
