Movie Review Flashback- Bullet to the Head (2012)

Walter Hill directs the 2012 action film Bullet to the Head, featuring an eclectic cast and a paper thin plot, but it is none-the-less an enjoyable romp through New Orleans as the protagonists shoot, beat-up, and blow up the bad guys as the film proceeds.

Hitman Jimmy “Bobo” Bonomo (Sylvester Stallone) works the streets of New Orleans, taking on dangerous and deadly jobs. However, he is betrayed and his partner murder by a gang enforcer Keegan (Jason Momoa) after taking out a corrupt cop. Detective Taylor Kwon (Sung Kang) from Washington, DC arrives in the Big Easy looking for the man who murdered his partner. Believing Keegan to be the killer, he connects to Bobo and the two go in search for Keegan.

Little do they know, Keegan works for the terrorist Robert Morel (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), and Morel’s lawyer Marcus Baptiste (Christian Slater) who have plans to turn New Orleans into their own personal slums and getting paid millions in the process.

If you are looking for a deep meaning or an epiphany on life, this is not the movie to watch. It is a film with a very basic plot that is more akin to action films of the 1980s, but with better acting, visuals, and a battle fought with axes. It is cool, fun, and the perfect rush.

I would like to say that Stallone and Sung Kang work very well together. They had great on screen chemistry and both of them did a great job with the sequences they were given.

Essentially, if you are looking for a good ol’ fashion, adrenaline pumping flick, this is the film for you. It is fast paced, exciting, interesting, and has a ton of bullets flying to keep your attention while you eat your popcorn.

FAVORITE QUOTE: In classical literature… the hero dies.

PARENTAL CONCERNS: Some nudity, extreme violence, strong foul language
