Low Expectations For Aquaman And Venom

Copyright DC Comics

Sony Pictures’ Venom starring Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock and directed by Ruben Fleischer opens in theaters this weekend. It is based on the Marvel Comics villain and is not set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Likewise, Aquaman, based on the DC Comics character, opens in December. It is directed by James Wan, stars Jason Mamoa as Arthur Curry, and is set in the DCEU. Here are a few thoughts on these films.

In regards to Aquaman, I have to admit, I enjoyed James Wan’s work on Furious 7. He is known for movies that horror-based or fun thrill rides. While I doubt that the film will be as good as Wonder Woman, I think this will be a fun and enjoyable film, especially considering the source material.

As for Venom, Sony made a huge mistake. They should have connected this movie to the MCU and allowed Marvel Studios to help develop it. While I think the movie will be entertaining, I am going in with no pre-conceived notions of ‘Best Picture,’ even a highly politicized pick. That being said, it might be fun to see Venom fight Lasher in the finale or if it’s connected to another film called Life starring Ryan Reynolds.

While I think these will be fun, I am under no delusions that they will be on par with The Dark Knight or even Iron Man, but I do believe they could be fun, entertaining, and at least get me into nerd mode. We only have a few days to find out about Venom, but we have till December to find out about Aquaman.

That is my opinion. What did you think? Let me know in the comments below and tell me what you think of the video. Check out this article: So, What’s It Like Dating A Modern Feminist? Don’t forget to like, share, and subscribe for more posts like this one.

  1. As a person how saw the film recently, I have to say though it may not be attached to the MCU, it can be adapted. The film is a call back to the 80s with Tom Hardy’s interpretation of Eddie Brock. The symbiote itself is sentient, unlike the Sam Rami debacle of Spider-Man 3, he— they do say, “We are Venom!” Low expectations— I’m not going to lie, I did have them. However, once you see it, I believe you will be pleasantly surprised. You can tell there was care put into this film and Spidey buffs will be pleased for the most part. Granted fanboys are the hardest to please.

The film stands out and on its own 2 feet. I have to give it credit for that, also if you know nothing of the character that’s alright, the film catches you up to speed real quick, even with its own “Movie” origin. It hits all the right notes and is a rather pleasant ride. I give it an 8/10.
