From the mind of electro-house musician and record producer Steve Aoki comes Neon Future, a comic book series from the publishing company Impact Theory. It catapults the reader into a future divided between humans and humans who chosen to take on digital enhancements. I received a free autographed copy of this issue at LA Comic Con and I’m so glad I did.
Thirty years in the future, there is a divide between human who are normal, known as Authentics and those who are digitized known as Augments. The two sides continually aggravate each other, leading to a confrontation. Clay Campbell is a TV star and an authentic who stirs up trouble for the Augments, but he is killed after a bombing. The mysterious leader of the Augments, Kita Sovee, turns Clay into one of them, bringing them back to life and forcing the arrogant celebrity into a world he previously hated.
This science fiction is a fantastic journey into a dystopian cyberpunk world. It is an excellent adventure that does a good job of world building without confusing the reader. Script writers Jim Krueger and Tom Bilyeu, along with artists Neil Edwards and Jheremy Raapack make this whole comic book come to life for any nerd or geek reading it. I found the premise intriguing, the characters interesting, and the overall feel of the story to be enjoyable. One note, this series is meant for mature audiences.
