After Ben Affleck and Warner Bros. appeared to part ways following the lackluster response he received as Batman (and a stint in rehab), a ton of speculation has been forming around who will play the role in the upcoming Matt Reeves directed film The Batman. There is still no clue as to who will actually be playing the Caped Crusader.
It does not help that little is known about the movie itself. At one point, it was thought that it would be Ben Affleck directing and starring in the movie with Batman battling over-hyped villain Slade Wilson aka Deathstroke. After Affleck’s departure from the project (allow rumors persist he might still be donning the cape and cowl), Matt Reeves was tapped to direct it.
Since then, Warner Bros. has been tight-lipped about the project, choosing to hype Todd Philips’ The Joker solo film instead. We don’t know if it is a reboot, a sequel to Justice League, a prequel to Batman V Superman, or even if it is in the DCEU at all.
A few actors were rumored to be considered for the part of Batman. Poor choices like Timothée Chalamet and Ryan Gosling to better choices like Jake Gyllenhaal were the subject of speculation. Most of these have been dismissed. The only thing we know for sure is Josh Gad wants to play Oswald Cobblepot aka The Penguin, one of Batman’s worst enemies. Is should start filming sometime this year. Now we are left with more questions than answers.
Josh Gad has been cast as Oswald Cobblepot aka The Penguin, one of Batman’s worst enemies.
For now, Batman fans will have to look to Gotham and the animated films until we get something concrete from DC Comics and Warner Bros.
