Top 10 Batman: TAS Episodes

No one can deny the influence that Batman: The Animated Series has had on DC Comics, Saturday morning cartoons, numerous childhoods, and even pop culture at large. It is a beloved television show created by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm. Premiering on FoxKids, spawned two continuations when it moved to KidsWB, The Adventures of Batman and Robin as well as The New Batman Adventures (though they are considered part of the same show). It featured an all-star cast including Mark Hamill as The Joker, Arleen Sorkin as Harley Quinn, Efrem Zimbalist Jr. as Alfred, and of course, Kevin Conroy as the Dark Knight. Here is my list of Top 10 Batman: The Animated Series Episodes:

10. On Leather Wings – The pilot featured a far scarier origin for Man-Bat, with the police chasing Batman after they think he is responsible for the crimes.

09. Heart Of Ice – This took a cheesy 60s era Arkham Inmate in Mr. Freeze and turned him into a cold-hearted scientist bent on vengeance. This episode won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing in an Animated Program in 1993.

08. Robin’s Reckoning – This two-part episode retold the origin of Dick Grayson, though it tried to stay true to its comic book roots.

07. I Am The Night – Commissioner Gordon is seriously wounded on the anniversary of the deaths of Thomas and Martha Wayne. As a result, Bruce Wayne considers giving up the mantle of the Bat.

06. Old Wounds – Nightwing tells Robin the story of why he and Batman had a falling out.

05. Shadow of the Bat – After Two-Face frames Commissioner Gordon for taking bribes from Rupert Thorne, Barbara Gordon dons the mask and becomes Batgirl.

04. Mad Love – Harley Quinn is tired of Batman getting in the way of her relationship with the Joker. After a flashback detailing her origin, she hatches a plan to kill the Dark Knight.

03. Christmas With The Joker – The Clown Prince of Crime takes over Gotham’s airwaves and immediately sets about destroying the city.

02. Trial – The inmates take over Arkham Asylum and manage to take capture the Batman. They put him on trial with a DA who hates him as his defense attorney.

01. Almost Got ‘Im – Poison Ivy, The Penguin, Killer Croc, Two-Face, The Joker, and Catwoman all relay stories about how they almost killed the Caped Crusader.

Of course, there are several others and way too many to mention, but these are my favorite Batman: TAS episodes. Let me know which ones are yours in the comment section.
