The DC Rebirth continues on with Detective Comics volume three “League of Shadows,” from writer James Tynion IV and featuring artwork from the talented illustrators Marcio Takara and Christian Duce.
Shortly after the takedown of The Victim’s Syndicate, Batman and Batwoman are training Cassandra Cain aka Orphan, Luke Fox aka Bat-Wing, Jean Paul Valley aka Azrael, and reformed villain Basil Karlo aka Clayface for the return of the Colony. Unfortunately for them, something darker arrives in Gotham City. Lady Shiva brings the League of Shadows and even frames Batman for murdering the mayor. However, she has a connection to Cassandra, one that could potentially tear the Batman Family apart.
Lady Shiva is either an overused or underused DC Comics villain depending on the writer, but Tynion hit that perfect balance. She is a ferocious villain that seems to even frighten Ra’s al Ghul, who has a small appearance in this series. It packed with action and even shows Batman having flaws without them being exaggerated too much. It is an exciting story that hits every high point that a nerd could love.
