‘The Umbrella Academy’ Will Make A Season 2 Come Back On Netflix

Many superheroes show are starting to vanish off Netflix. While we will not be getting a second season of The Defenders, we will be getting another dose of The Umbrella Academy. I am not familiar with the show’s source material, other than it is an adaption of the comic book of the same name published by Dark Horse Comics and created by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá.

According to ScreenRant, Netflix will begin filming in Toronto by Summer 2019, but it is unknown how much of the principal cast will return or where the story-arc will pick up.

A few folks on Twitter had asked me my thoughts on The Umbrella Academy, but at the time I had not seen it, but everyone was telling me I should give it a try since I am a fan of nerd things. I finally sat down and binged watched it.

The plot is pretty intriguing. A group of superheroes reconnect for their adoptive father, the wealthy and super smart Sir Reginald Hargreeves’ funeral after being separated for seventeen years. Hypnotist Allison / Number Three (Emmy Raver-Lampman), drug addict ghost summoner Klaus Hargreeves / Number Four (Robert Sheehan), superstrong Luther / Number One (Tom Hopper), athletic Diego / Number Two (David Castañeda), and powerless Vanya Hargreeves / Number Seven (Ellen Page) gather, but have nothing nice to say and even bicker amongst themselves. Ben / Number Six (Justin H. Min) is passed away and teleporter Number 5 (Aidan Gallagher) is missing, that is, until the funeral. He arrives from another time-zone and tries to rally the others into stopping the end of the world, but some want to stop them.

Bottom line, the pilot is awful. It does a terrible job of introducing the characters and making you connect with them. However, episode two picks up the story immediately and crafts a very interesting plot. At that point, I enjoyed it a great deal. Unlike most superhero films or shows, these characters are broken, beaten, and have all kinds of personal problems that get in the way of the job they are supposed to do, with some even wondering if they should.

It is interesting and complex with so many facets that come together for a powerful climax. It is one that I enjoyed a great deal and I can safely say that I am excited for season two.
