Father’s Day 2019: Father-Son Films

Here is a repost, but, hey, it is Father’s Day! Is it a day to remember the men in our lives who inspired, encouraged, cheered, educated, and helped us learn about life. Some of my fondest memories of my Dad include hunting, going to car shows, fishing, eating junk food, but one of my favorite pass times with him was: Father-Son Movie Nights. We had them all the time. We watched so many movies, a lot of them were pretty campy, but in their camp, we both could usually find something we enjoyed. Here is my list of Father-Son movies.

WarGames- Staring Matthew Broderick, this 1983 film about a hacker who accidentally stumbles on a military war program may seem out-of-date today, but its got some pretty cool sequences and is a great addition to this list.

War of the Worlds- In 2005, Tom Cruise played a dad on the run with his two kids as Earth is being invaded by aliens.

Batman- This 1989 Tim Burton film about Batman is a little lost in the times, but it is a good conversation starter about The Dark Knight in the movies.

The Mask of Zorro- The 1998 film starring Antonio Banderas is about a masked vigilante who is trained to become the next hero of California: Zorro, who makes the sign of the Z.

Ghostbusters- Okay, so I know the remake is coming, but the original one starring Bill Murray is a hilarious comedy film that had me and my Dad laughing all the way through.

Top Gun- In 1986, ready to see Val Kilmer and Tom Cruise fly into the “danger zone.”

Fletch- Starring Chevy Chase, this comedy 1985 film about a snoopy reporter had both me and Dad laughing as he pretends to be a beach bum, State Department official, and even a surgeon.

The Magnificent Seven- This 1960 Western film has all the greats of that era, Yul Brynner, Eli Wallach, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, Robert Vaughn, Brad Dexter, James Coburn and Horst Buchholz star in a movie about retiring gunfighters who save a town from armed bullies.

Top Dog- No Father-Son film list is complete without this 1995 Chuck Norris action-comedy. Watch Norris as he beats up a gang of white supremacists who are trying to cause havoc in his city.

The Rookie- This 2002 stars Dennis Quaid as Jim Morris, a high school teacher who has a short, but successful career as Major League Baseball pitcher.
