Who Should Direct ‘Batgirl?’ Here’s My Top 10 Choices.

Originally, Avengers director Joss Whedon was attached to direct the ‘Batgirl’ solo film. However, he left the project suspiciously after he tried to fix the mess that Zack “Martha” Snyder made out of Justice League. Since then, the “Barbara Gordon story” has been put on hold while DC Comics and Warner Bros. tries to recruit a new director. Batman-News reports that Nicolas Winding Refn, known for Drive starring Ryan Gosling, has expressed an interest, but he would be disastrous for it. His projects have severe pacing problems while driving (pun definitely intended) so far deep, they end up being confusing and lackluster.

So the question remains, who should direct the Batman spin-off? I have a few ideas of my own that I think would do the film justice. Here’s My Top 10 Choices to director Batgirl (in no particular order):

Lexi Alexander– Known for Punisher: Warzone, plus keeping active on the television front, she could bring a brutal, stylistic approach to Batgirl as she goes from sunny Burnside to the streets of Gotham City.

Dan Bradley– True, his one film the Red Dawn 2012 remake. While it lacked the gravitas of the original, the movie had incredible visuals and a thought-provoking story. He could bring Barbara Gordon’s story to life in a new way.

Sam Raimi– J.J. Abrams jumped ship. Why not Sam Raimi? He brought Spider-Man to life in new ways and helped kick off a generation of comic book films. Bringing Batgirl to life would be a second impressive feat for him.

Debra Granik– The Jennifer Lawrence vehicle Winter’s Bone wowed audiences for its incredible story-telling power. Granik has proven she can tell a solo story and this could be a sign that she is right for Batgirl.

Matthew Vaughn– His films are edgy, thrilling, and action-packed. From indie crime films like Layer Cake to X-Men: First Class, he could give the story of Barbara Gordon the gold treatment.

Brad Bird– From animated films like The Incredibles to live-action like Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, this guy has the resume to bring a comic book story to new heights.

Brittany Goodwin– She is mainly known for acting and directing indie films like If You’re Gone. That makes her perfect to take on the story of Barbara Gordon at her peak as the masked vigilante either in Gotham City or her later career in Burnside.

Luc Besson– Director of Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, he could bring a driven story and also a powerful look at the emotional side of being a crimefighter.

Clint Eastwood– If the man wanted to die an even wealthier man, he should consider bringing the story of Batgirl to life, even though he’s set after The Mule.

James Wan– From the seas in Aquaman to the streets of Gotham, Wan could bring an action-packed thriller that sets the tone for an epic battle with Batgirl and perhaps even brings Batman into the film.
