‘Star Trek: Picard’ Trailer Makes Waves At San Diego Comic-Con

It is the return of one of Star Trek’s most famous ship top officers, known other than Captain Jean-Claude Picard of USS Enterprise NCC 1701-D (and later 1701-E). CBS made waves with the announcement of the upcoming miniseries Star Trek: Picard and dropped a trailer at the event.

Check out the trailer below:

Rumors of creative differences between the studio and long-time Trek producer Alex Kurtzman (who was later fired) have plagued the development. However, it appears that the sequel is moving forward with Patrick Stewart returning as Captain Picard. It will take place several after Next Generation, specifically, twenty years after the events of the abysmal Star Trek: Nemesis, which saw fan-favorite character Lt. Commander Data sacrifice himself to save the Enterprise. However, Brent Spiner is returning for this series, along with Marina Sirtis confirming on Twitter that she and Jonathan Frakes will be returning as Counselor Troy and Commander (now Captain) Will Riker.

While the trailer gives very little away as plot, it seems Picard is going on a mission to save a young woman who seems to have a connection to the villainous cybernetic beings known as the Borg. Perhaps the most shocking part of the trailer was the appearance of Jeri Ryan, who plays Seven of Nine in Star Trek: Voyager.

As for my thoughts on the trailer, I think it looks exciting. Hopefully, the miniseries will capture the spirit of the TNG and will send that story-arc on a final adventure and end it in a proper way. Hopefully, it will end with Captain Picard delivering his iconic phrase, “Make it so.”
