Comic Book Review- Detective Comics Issues 1006-1007

Written by Peter J. Tomasi with art by Kyle Hotz, this two-part Detective Comics features Batman partnering with one of the most dangerous characters in all of the DC Comics line-up.

Jim Corrigan is a Gotham City police detective who carries a secret. One that is revealed when one of his fellow police officers is murdered by a mysterious cult. The murder attracts the attention of the Spectre, a vicious spirit of wrath that is hosted in Corrigan’s body. The cult kidnaps Corrigan, forcing the Spectre to ask Batman for help in tracking down his the police detective. Batman is not too keen on working with the Spectre but does on the agreement that the spirit of wrath will not kill anyone while they search for Corrigan.

This is a nice two-part break from the sometimes long-winded story-arcs that often get shoved our way. It is good to see Corrigan hosting the Spectre. Hal Jordan and Crispus Glover just were not the right fit for the dark, vengeful spirit. I found the story interesting, but the artwork seemed a little rushed. I suppose it closely resembled the tone of the story, but the sort of busy “every blood vein showing” is not my taste.
