Comic Book Review- Detective Comics Issue 1008

DC Comics launches its ‘Year of the Villain’ event. Detective Comics issue 1008 which returns Batman to his roots with a good ol’ fashion battle with the Joker, written by Peter J. Tomasi with art by Doug Mahnke.

Bruce Wayne wakes up to Alfred informing him that the Joker has taken over the Gotham City fairgrounds and is forcing people to have a good time with explosive collars around their necks. Batman arrives on the scene only to discover that the Joker rigged a bomb to blow up the entire fairgrounds to blow.

This was a throwback to the old days of Batman comic books. A single, one-off adventure where he does battle with the Joker. It is fun, well-written, and shows the best of both the Dark Knight and the Clown Prince of Crime. Of course, Mahnke does amazing with the illustrations. They perfectly complement the story.
