New ‘My Hero Academia’ Film Has Been Announced!

In the 17th issue of the Japanese manga magazine Weekly Shonen Jump, it was announced that the My Hero Academia: Two Heroes is going to get to get a sequel that will set up the next phase for the acclaimed anime series.

‘Boku no Hīrō Akademia Za Mūb’ also known in English as My Hero Academia: Heroes: Rising will premier in Japan on December 20, 201 via Toho and Bones Studios.

According to a synopsis released by ComicBook.com,

“A must-see story full of passion!! In this movie, Deku, Bakugo, Ochaco, Todoroki, and all the other members of Class A will make an appearance! Even though All Might was admired by [many] all around the world, it was with a sad heart that he had to give up his hero role as the Symbol of Peace. Because of this, a dark force who was moving behind the scenes, a villain named Nine who can be considered the greatest villain thus far.”

The villain is said to be the mysterious Nine, who has been hinted at in the manga, though he has yet to make an appearance in the anime. He is said to be a powerful evildoer who will force everyone’s favorite hero class to make bold new decisions.

Whether or not this is the actual finale of the series, series creator Kohei Horikoshi had this to say according to CBR, “In a certain sense, one could say that this movie will be finale-ish for MHA. Let me clarify: the movie is going to feature one element that I wanted to use in the final battle of the manga. If you’re thinking, ‘If that’s true, then what’s gonna happen with the manga?!’ please rest assured. I’m worried too.” He added, “The first movie showcased All Might and Deku fighting side-by-side as master and pupil (which is just about the most ultimately awesome thing I could think of), and now this movie somehow has to top that battle. Which puts me in a tough spot. I can’t imagine anything is going to top this one, so there won’t be a third movie. Probably. In short, movie #2 is going to blow the last one out of the water in a PLUS ULTRA way, so look forward to it!”

My Hero Academia, known as ‘Boku No Hero’ in Japan, is one of my favorite anime. While this film may not be a finale for the show, it is clear that it will start winding down, especially if the story of Deku training under All-Might is coming to an end.
