My Crazy Theory About ‘Joker’ And Why It Could Be Possible

Warner Bros.

Todd Philips will be bringing us a new take on Batman’s archnemesis in Joker starring Joaquin Phoenix. According to numerous reports, while the film takes ideas from comic books but will have its own spin taking inspiration from noir movies. The Joker will now be a failed comedian named Arthur Fleck who slowly slips from sanity in Gotham City.

Now I have a theory to put out there. Hear me out. I do not think Arthur Fleck will actually be the Clown Prince of Crime. While I think he will call himself the moniker (as the trailer shows), I actually think he will either somehow inspire the actual Joker or be the father of the man who will become the Joker and face Batman. Either way, I think he will be a precursor and not the final product.

Now, this theory does not seem too far-fetched when you consider a bizarre paragraph in a recent ‘Variety‘ interview with Robert Pattinson.

At one point in our conversation, he offers a mundane comment about Joaquin Phoenix, who stars in “Joker” (a movie he hasn’t seen yet), before asking to retract it. “Oh s—,” he says, adding that he’s not accustomed to thinking about spoilers. “I definitely should not say that. I’m so used to pretty art-house movies, where you can watch the movie three times and still not know what it’s about.”

Now, some have theorized that this could be a hint that Joker will crossover with Matt Reeves’ The Batman which stars Pattinson. Why would Pattison know a spoiler about Phoenix unless there’s some sort of connection between the films?

This holds credence with my theory. Should Phoenix survive Todd Philips’ movie, it is possible since both Philips and Phoenix have hinted at sequels. With Arkham Asylum being introduced in both movies, perhaps this will create a tie-in where it will be revealed that Arthur Fleck was the one who inspired the Red Hood who would later become the Joker. I do not think that is a stretch.
