Continuing the DC Comics “Year of the Villains” story-arc, Detective Comics shines a spotlight on a more prominent Batman villain Deadshot. Written by Peter J. Tomasi with art by Christian Duce, this takes Bruce Wayne out of the streets of Gotham City to a whole new environment.
Bruce Wayne goes on a trip to discuss the environment somewhere in the Pacific with a group of his executives. However, the mercenary Deadshot shoots down the plane, causing it to crash on an island in the ocean. Without access to his Batman armor and gear, Bruce must find a way to use his wits and the help of two islanders to stop Deadshot before he murders Lucius Fox and the other surviving Wayne executives.
Of course, they get an environmental dig in there. Get ready to roll your eyes for that one. However, Tomasi picks the action right back as Batman battles one of his most formable foes without all of his gears. Likewise, Duce does a good job with the artwork, but I will say 1009 had a very deceptive cover that made it appear Mr. Freeze was the villain, but he had a very minor role in every issue, not enough for the cover.
