Yes, it is time. LA Comic Con brought all kinds of exhibits, panels, displays, and kiosks from all things nerd. Films, television, comic books, anime, fantasy, science fiction, art, manga, and so much more were available at this event.
Day one was a low key fun day. While there were no panels, I got to meet indie comic ‘Unearthians’ creator Omar Moras who gave me signed copies of the first three issues of his series, which I highly recommend, by the way. I also met ‘Spencer & Locke‘ volumes one and two writer David Pepose who elaborated on the recently announced volume three. These two were definitely the highlights of the day.
Day two, my super cute wife and I explored the Artist Alley. There were a ton of amazing artists who were not only doing some incredible grand illustrations of your favorite franchises, but also some original works that showed some pretty awesome talent. I even got my New 52 Batman #0 blank variant drawn on by a very talented artist who went by the moniker ‘Aleikats.’ Every year, it is all I can do not to bankrupt myself on the amazing pieces you can find.
Day three was truly momentous. First, I got to check out the Delorean from Back To The Future. That was quite a display. The next stop was a Q&A with actor Drake Bell, known for the television series Drake And Josh and the animated show The Ultimate Spider-Man. I was able to ask him, “What Spidey media do you wish you could be a part of?” He replied, “Definitely, the LEGO franchise. That’d be totally rad.”
That was just the beginning. As I was exploring the “horror” section of the exhibit hall, guess who I bumped into. Give up? None other than Tommy Wiseau. No lie. The mastermind behind The Room was at a booth at the convention. I got a picture for the small trade of purchasing the blu-ray edition of his film. I suppose I should say, YOU’RE TEARING ME APART, LISA!!!
After exploring some more, I got to see some cool exhibits, chatted with a few artists, I head to the Legion of M booth where I got the chance to take a photo with legendary director John Milius, who brought us movie classics like Red Dawn and The Wind And The Lion. He was very pleasant to talk to and I am glad I got to meet him.
One thing I will say about the LA Comic Con, they run a tight ship. I will say, the cosplayers seemed toned down this year compared to 2018 and the panels were not as epic, but they have the place well organized and the event well planned. They bring in some really great creators, celebrities, and gamers covering a wide variety of fandoms that make it fun.
