My Top 10 Favorite Captain Picard Quotes

Captain Jean-Luc Picard served as commanding officer for NCC-1701-D (later E) Enterprise in the science fiction television show Star Trek: The Next Generation. He was played brilliantly by actor Sir Patrick Stewart and he is making his comeback as the character in Star Trek: Picard. During TNG‘s seven-year-run and subsequent movie sequel, Captain Picard was known for giving wisdom in any circumstance the crew found themselves in. In no particular order, here are My Top 10 Favorite Captain Picard Quotes:

“Make it so.” Episode: “Encounter At Farpoint” (This would become his catchphrase throughout the series.)

“Let’s make sure history never forgets the name … Enterprise.” Episode: “Yesterday’s Enterprise”

“With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably.” Episode: “The Drumhead”

“There is a way out of every box, a solution to every puzzle; it’s just a matter of finding it.” Episode: “Attached”

“It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose. That is not weakness, that is life.” Episode: “Peak Performance”

I rather believe that time is a companion who goes with us on the journey and reminds us to cherish every moment because it will never come again. What we leave behind is not as important as how we’ve lived. After all Number One, we’re only mortal.” – Star Trek Generations

“There are times, sir, when men of good conscience cannot blindly follow orders. You acknowledge their sentience, but ignore their personal liberties and freedom. Order a man to turn his child over to the state? Not while I’m his captain.” Episode: “The Offspring”

“Being first at any cost is not always the point.” Episode: “Tin Man”

“We are what we are, and we’re doing the best we can. It is not for you to set the standards by which we should be judged!” Episode: “All Good Things

“We’ve made too many compromises already; too many retreats. They invade our space and we fall back. They assimilate entire worlds and we fall back. Not again. The line must be drawn here! This far, no further! And I will make them pay for what they’ve done!” – Star Trek First Contact
