Comic Book Review- J.J. Abrams Spider-Man Part 3

The Rise of Skywalker director J.J. Abrams co-writes this Spider-Man miniseries with his son Henry Adams with art by Sara Pichelli. It presents an alternate future with a retired Peter Parker and his son who is learning what it is like to be the web-slinger.

Ben Parker was learning his new abilities and even trying his hand at a few heroics in issue two. Peter arrives back in New York to try to talk his son out of wearing the webs when they are suddenly attacked by Cadaverous, who captures Peter. Seeking answers, Ben and his friend Faye goes to Tony Stark, who has become a shadow of himself, much to the disappointment of Ben. However, Stark does reveal a secret, not just about Peter, but about the Parker family. This secret has ramifications in the world of cybernetics and Cadaverous wants this secret for himself.

I do like how Ben and his relationship with Peter is working the conflict. It does not feel gimmicky or forced and I enjoy watching them grow. However, I was not a fan of how Stark developed. Modern writers for Marvel Comics want to amplify his flaws when he fails and I find this old hat and boring. Also, Siri, really? Ironheart was never popular with the fans and the fact that now she has become the replacement for War Machine is flat out insulting.

As for the artwork by Sara Pichelli, she does a good job with the character designs, background, and movement is illustrated with incredible talent. She definitely knows the territory and has been doing amazing since the first issue.
