‘Changeland’ Review- Good Vibes All Around

Seth Green goes the extra mile in Changeland, which he starred in, wrote, and made his directorial review. Released by Gravitas Ventures, the film is drama but also has several comedic moments.

Brandon (Seth Green) meets his best friend Dan (Breckin Meyer) in Thailand, where he reveals that he discovered his wife has been cheating on him. The trip to Asia was supposed to be a surprise, but after learning of her infidelity, Brandon leaves on his own to think about things with Dan, who tells him to decide whether he wants to fight for his marriage or leave it behind. During the trip, Brandon dodges calls from his wife.

They encounter a tour guide named Pen (Brenda Song), her friend Dory (Clare Grant), and a hippie tour guide Ian (Macaulay Culkin), each who take the Brandon and Dan on some exotic adventure. Later, they meet the three again and Dan develops a crush on Dory. They join a party at a bar where they meet a scary man named Martin (Randy Orton), who actually turns out to be a millionaire that is on vacation. He takes a liking to Brandon and convinces him to have a good time. As the days go on, Brandon begins to question what makes him happy and whether or not his marriage was right, to begin with.

I honestly did not know what to expect from this movie. When a movie star transitions to film director, it can have mixed results. In this case, I have to say Green did not disappoint. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and was entertained throughout the whole feature. There were a few scenes that I thought ran a little long, but otherwise, it was a good watch.

As far as the cast, it was well done. Green, Meyer, Culkin, Song, Grant, and Orton all do an excellent job in their respective roles. They all had very clever dialogue that made the film interesting. I also would like to say that Green and Meyer have great chemistry as two friends who are going on this adventure in Thailand.

The subject matter is a bit dreary since the main antagonist is contemplating his wife’s adultery, but there were several well-timed comedic moments to bring about some fun. I also enjoyed the “buddy film” aspect of the movie. These kinds of films of two dudes going on an adventure together with no hidden agenda or politically correct motivation. That made the movie enjoyable and fun, even though the topic was a bit serious.

Bottom line, kudos to Seth Green. This movie was enjoyable, entertaining, and had some excellent performances from all of the actors involved.
