Ben Affleck Is On Board With #ReleaseTheSnyderCut. Duh.

Zack Snyder continues to gain attention with his continual calls for Warner Media to release the so-called Snyder Cut of Justice League, the DCEU film that Snyder left during post-production only for Joss Whedon to make a new cut on DC Entertainment and Warner’s behalf.

Several actors from the film have said it should be released including Wonder Woman actor Gal Gadot, but also Ben Affleck, who played Bruce Wayne in ‘JL’ and Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Affleck double down on his support, telling CinemaBlend,

I didn’t know about it. Zack was like, ‘Hey, they are doing this thing.’ And I said, ‘Zack, I love you, and I support you. However I can help you.’ I do think that movie, you know, having two directors is a very weird thing. And for Justice League, the director had a family tragedy. … and so you have a kind of cow’s body with a horse’s head a little bit with two directors a lot of times, for better or for worse. I do think Zack’s cut should be available.

Of course, Ben Affleck wants the Snyder Cut released. His legacy as the Dark Knight has been a point of a controversy for fans of the World’s Greatest Detective. While a minority enjoyed the angsty, murdering version, most cried foul and Snyder was even confronted over this depiction, which gained a profanity-laced tangent in response.

This is conjecture, but I am guessing that Affleck is hoping that a Snyder Cut release would move the debate from him mooning the audience and smashing people’s heads with boxes to a debate over which version of the Justice League is better. We can only guess at this point, but while I think Whedon is the better director, I know he had very little to work with in developing the JL film.

My stance on the Snyder Cut has always been that it does, in fact, exist, but that it is incomplete. This is based on the fact that Justice League was supposed to end in a cliffhanger and that Superman was not going to be in it originally. That, and I think Snyder should put up or shut up. A few released photos, a picture of a few tins with your name on it, and so on is not enough to convince me he has it together. If it is done, it is try to throw around that undeserved Hollywood kudos to get WB to release it. Especially since it seems WB is not in a hurry to bring it to light.

As for Warner Media, they seems to be undecided in if they want to disregard the DCEU or to try to salvage with a reboot similar to the X-Men franchise. If they choose the former, they should go back to doing standalone films that were in vogue prior to Man of Steel. If they choose the latter, they need to find someone with actual talent, like Patty Jenkins, to oversee the DCEU.
