‘Fruits Basket’ Creator Shares Message On The Upcoming Second Season

The slice-of-life anime reboot Fruits Basket from TMS Entertainment was a surprise hit with viewers thanks in part to its elements of drama and fantasy. Funimation provided the English dubbing for the show and it is returning for a second season. Who would have thought a sweet, kind girl like Tohru could melt the hearts of the Somas, a family living with a strange curse?

Natsuki Takaya, the creator of the original manga, sent out a message to fans regarding season two. Funimation posted a translated version on their blog.

Congratulations on the broadcast of the second season of the anime, Fruits Basket (2019). I appreciate all of those who are part of its production for their continued involvement from the first season, and I’m very happy that I can observe as the title reaches many viewers.

To tell the truth, even though I wrote the original story, there are often details that I’ve forgotten (It has been more than ten years since I completed the series). That’s why I’m brought to tears when confirming the scenario, and I wonder, “Who wrote such a painful story? It was me.” This keeps happening, so I think I might dehydrate myself from fluid loss if I watch with the addition of video, voices, and music. I’m a little worried about that.

The characters in the second season have lost their way, but it’s because they are lost that they can make the most out of it and struggle to search for the right path. I hope everyone will watch over them until they find their way. It would give me the utmost joy if everyone will love them as they search. I look forward to watching as a viewer myself.

Fruits Basket season two will premier in Japan on April 7, 2020. No word yet on whether this will be a simuldub or if we will have to wait for the English version, though Funimation did release an official overview.

“It’s been almost a year since Tohru started living at Shigure’s house,” they write. “Though she now has a deeper relationship with each of the Somas, not just Yuki and Kyo, she is concerned about their sinister curse’s true nature. The right path to choose, predetermined destiny… what emotions will arise in Yuki, Kyo and Tohru in the face of the Eternal Banquet? What will be their resolve?”

Hopefully, we will get to see the return of characters Yuki, Kyo, Shigure, and others, along with new members of the Soma family who are also cursed by the Zodiac not yet seen.
