Matt Reeves Shares First Images Of The Batmobile

Matt Reeves shared some “first look” images for the Batmobile in his upcoming film ‘The Batman,’ starring Robert Pattinson. It is a very different and more minimalist design than has been seen in recent cinema.

Check out his Twitter post below:

This version appears to look more like a muscle car, albeit it one that has a rocket on its back. It definitely has an aerodynamic feel to it, made more for speed than surviving a fallout. I think for a story about the early days of Batman, which is what Matt Reeves says the story is supposed to touch on.

Compared to others, I think this minimalist feel will work for this movie. Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy focused on Batman being at war, so it made sense for it to resemble a tank. Tim Burton’s design was made to look more intimidating and sleek. Adam West’s was made to look groovy. Bruce Timm’s design for Batman: TAS was made for speed and survival, resembling a missile. Schumacher and Snyder went for similar slim designs, except the ‘Batman V. Superman: Dawn Of Justice‘ version which had machine guns to mow down villains and endanger civilians.

A few folks I know complained that it looks too much like a regular car. There is merit to that criticism, I think an early version of Batman who is trying to be an urban legend would want a vehicle that is less conspicuous. If that is what Reeves is going for, it does make sense of the DC Comics character in that context.
