Graphic Novel Review- Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight Vol. 2

Originally published as a DC Comics online exclusive, Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight Vol. 2 is a collection of individual stories from a plethora of comic book writers.

Similar to Volume One, each story tells of a different adventure that the Batman takes on in the streets of Gotham City. His allies Alfred, Commissioner Gordon, and Detective Harvey Bullock appear as well as his enemies Scarecrow, Joker, Killer Croc, and a few new adversaries that will rattle you.

My favorite in this volume is “Dreaming He Is A Butterfly” where Scarecrow gasses Batman with something, but does it make him afraid or reveal a terrible truth? Bruce Wayne wakes up with his body broken and Alfred telling him that he has been retired for five years and now only helps the police in a consulting manner. Which reality is true? The story is written by Christos Gage and drawn by Jheremy Raapack who both do a very good job.

My least favorite is “Off The Menu.” I am not a fan of cannibalistic villains and this one was featured heavily in the story. While it showed nothing gory, it was a very unpleasant experience to live through the eyes of the Dark Knight.

That being said, this is a fine addition to your collection. I enjoyed the stories overall and found them entertaining with some very nice artwork that made the comics enjoyable.
