Music Review- Tobymac: 21

Tobymac tells a lot of uplifting stories through his music. He is just that kind of talent. However, with his new song “21,” he tells a very personal story that is one of tragedy, but also of hope.

Dedicated to his son Truett, who tragically passed away last year, this song is written with every bit of emotion you can feel. Tobymac speaks of seeing him again when “you run into my arms.” The passing of a family member, especially a child, is hard for anyone. But the dcTalk alumn raises it to the next level with his inspiring story and dedication for his son. As for the music video, it matches the tone as Tobymac sings in the middle of the rainstorm. The symbolism of standing strong in the midst of the storm was not lost on me. I applaud Tobymac for not letting his faith be shaken during this tragedy and for using his talent to pay tribute to his lost boy.

While other Christian leaders are letting their faith be shaken by pop culture, popularity, or plain cowardice, I pray that Tobymac will remain strong. His faith has inspired so many people, including me.
